Here are some sidequests last few years that are mostly math related - but not quite research related.

EGMO 2026
Iceland participated for the first time at the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) in 2026. I had the honor of serving as the team leader for this wonderful team. The deputy leader was Nanna Kristjánsdóttir, organizer of Stelpur diffra! which will be mentioned again below. The trip ended with an excursion to the impressive Dune du Pilat.
NORÐAN 2025
I was part of organizing the 26th iteration of Nordan, the Nordic conference on Complex Analysis with my collegues Benedikt Steinar Magnússon, Bergur Snorrason and Gianmarco Brocchi. The graphic design of the logos, along with the stylization NORÐAN instead of NORDAN is curtesy of Bergur. The picture on the right is from our excursion to Þórsmörk, where the group hiked up Valahnjúkur in fantastic weather.
KAUS 2024
Bergur and I also organized the workshop of KAUS 2024, the year before, in Östanskär, Sweden. KAUS stands for Komplex analys utan seniorer, which is swedish for Complex analysis without seniors. KAUS was held yearly between 2005 and 2011, and then lay dormant until our revival in 2024. At the point of writing (2026), KAUS has been held yearly since the revival. For more photos:

SoME1
Here is a video I made as a submission to 3Blue1Brown's Summer of Math Exposition (SoME1) the summer of 2021. The video explains my solution to a problem from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) that summer. A few weeks prior to making this video, I was a team leader for the Icelandic team at the IMO. As a leader, you have more time to grade your students' solution if you solve the problems yourself before solutions are published. I managed to solve this problem, and found my solution easier to understand than the official one. That is why I shared it in video format.
In how many pieces can you cut a pizza with 6 straight cuts? What about with a 100 straight cuts?
STAK
Stærðfræðikeppni framhaldsskólanema or STAK is the Icelandic mathematics competition for high school students. I served in the organizing comittee for many years, precisely the years of my Ph.D. studies. I suggested some problems to contest, often of geometric flavor, like the one to the right and left.
I also did some training for the Icelandic IMO team, here is my worksheet from 2023.
I was also a board member of The Icelandic Mathematical Society, as a contact with the mathematics competition.
In how many ways can you place the 1s in a Sudoku?
Stelpur diffra!
Stelpur diffra! is a week-long math camp for girls and non-binary teens. I hosted a workshop on euclidean geometry in all of its editions except in 2024 (2021-2023 and 2025), the one in 2024 was too close to my Ph.D. graduation.
Here is my worksheet from 2023.
Hiking
For fun, let's end with something personal and wholly not math related. Here are two videos from long hikes. One is from Fimmvörðuháls (video in English, Icelandic and Danish) and the other is from Víknaslóðir (video in Icelandic).
